Accessing School Google Accounts at Home
Your child has access to all of the same tools we use at school while they are at home. All they need to do is sign into their account on their home devices. If you do not have a device available, the library has Chromebooks available for check out.
The features and options available will be based on grade level, student awareness, requirements for coursework and permissions. The following services are available to each student and hosted by Google as part of Riverview School’s use of Google Apps for Education:
Email – students will have a logon that is an email address, example: jsmith@silverlakejt1.k12.wi.us. The email will only allow IN NETWORK exchange (Emails can be sent and received only by users on Riverview School’s Domain (Student to teacher and vise versa). No outside emails can be transmitted or received. This will ensure the security and reliability in communications).
Contacts – students can maintain an address book containing classmate contact information.
Docs – students have access to a word processing, spreadsheet, drawing, and presentation program which is very similar to Microsoft Office.
Calendar – students can access an individual calendar in order to organize schedules, daily activities, and assignments.
Google Drive - is a file storage and synchronization service created by Google. It allows users to store files in the cloud, share files, and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with collaborators.
Google Classroom - is a blended learning platform for schools that aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. Teachers hand out this website for kids so they can have an easy and simple way of learning.
Other applications vary by grade.
Students can access their account by logging in using their Google account:
Go to https://accounts.google.com
Students enter their Google account <their username>@silverlakejt1.k12.wi.us
Enter password
Choose “Link Data”
Students are now able to access all the documents, assignments, bookmarks, sites, etc., that they use for their classes
***IMPORTANT*** Students MUST log out of their accounts when done working. Parents, siblings, etc., should not search or work on the computer while their student is logged in on their school accounts. Riverview has a filtering and security account attached to each student account for our student’s protection while at school and at home. Other’s working on a student account may inadvertently search something that would get flagged on the student’s account.
